One document, for example, pertains to Guy Hottel, a special agent in charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office, who sent a memo concerning flying saucers to the FBI's director in March 1950. "An investigator for the Air Force stated that three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico," according to the memo dated March 22, 1950. "They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed flyers and test pilots. "According to Mr. [redacted] informant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Government has a very high-powered radar set-up in that area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controlling mechanism of the saucers. No further evaluation was attempted by SA [redacted] concerning the above."

neswpaper norfolk ledger dispatch, ufo photographed by billy turrentine a norfolk school boy .. Interviewed by special agent august 8 at which time billy informed that tthe original negative was givent by hil to a mr brown of the photo craftsman service who in turn furnished the negative to the inetrnational news service.billy advised that he has an agreement with mr brwn whereby the later will share equally in any profits derived form the use of the negative by comemrcial firlms or newspapes.as of august 8 1947 billy has not received any remuneration for he use of this negative. he informed that he was sitting on the front porche of his appartment which is located on the third floor at 410 west 14 th street norfolk virgina around noontime on july 8 1947 .he had read numerous newspaper articles pertaining to flying discs and decided to sit on his front porch in the hope of seeing one and attempting to photograph it.on july 8 1947 billy observed a large black object moving rapidly through space proceeding from he southwest to a northeast direction. hesaid the black object was follwoed by two smaller objects whiwh also proceeded in the same direction. billy explained that the objects were moving at a very fast sppeed which appeared to him to be muche faster than the speed of an airplane and further that the objects appeared to be extremely high;he said that they were much higher than the average plane traveles in the city of norfolk and appeared to be above the clouds and that a wahite mist followed each of the thre objects. billy was unable to state what the black objects represented bt admitted that they could have been large balloons. he indicated that he had observed small toy ballonns flying though the air but that definitely these were not the toy type balloons.he said that wahen he first observed the objects they were at such a great distance form him that t was not necessary that he raise his head in order to see them from his porch on the third floord of the apartment building. he immediatkley turned around to obtain his camera and estimated it took him aproximately twenty to thirty seconds at which time the discs were almost directly over his apartment and it was necessary that he stoop and look up almost perpendicular in order to obtain the photogaph whoch accounts for the proch railing being shown in the newspaper lipping.billy pointed out that the day on which he took the pictur ethe weather was hazy and somewhat cloudy and there was a lsight breeze blowing form the southwest in the general direction of the northeast whiich is the same direction traveled by the black image wich he photographed.inasmuch as the army authorities in the tidewater area of virginia are cognizant of the above information no further investigation will be conducted by this office in this matter | |

According to the pilot object held a true course until they disappeared from sight . mr wenyon said last night that he frist saw what loosely resembled a flying mayonnaise jar one afetrnoon last september while flying at about 1000 feet it was late in the afeternoon and the pilot was flying north. suddenly at an estimated distance of 2000 feet in front of his plane and traveling from west to east mr weynon saw the jar.it was going at tremednous speed but the pilot was able to note several things. the most iomportant of theses observations insofar as an explantion is that jar could have been a sort of rocket combustion.; sopurts of silver flame form the tail seemed to provide the propulsion. the tail appeared to be a lid which had been perforated and that from these perforations the flames escaped. in a matter of two at the most three second sthe objects had disappeared over and past fort miles . th epilot did not see it land and dosen't know whether it did or not, the term flying mayonnaise jar is concocted by newspaper |

enclosed please find the newspaper account carried by the twin falls idaho times news on august 15 together with a sheet of paper on which ac urei attempted to sketch his impression of the sinstrument which he claimes to have see,. Cocnerning urie's sketches it may be noted that he believed the roller outer edge whoch he attempted to create in his drawing to have been about a foot through .urie likewise believe dthat the tubing or exhaust flame which he and his sons claim to have seen was about a feet through and extended at least to the back and of the device.the flame did not appear to taper off nor to widen out toward the back. billy and keith urie stated that they could see a knot on the side of the device form which the falmes were shooting an dthat they could see daylight between the exhaust flame and the side of the device.the flames did not leave any smoke or odor.the urie boys thought that the side view sketch should show that the device was more sharlply angled form bottom to top while urie himself though that it was more streamlined and curved.urie said that the instrument came to a pointed or reounded top. in his notations urie mistakenly said that he had seen it on thursday druing interview he statde that it atucally had been on wednesday august 13 1947 when he and his sons saw the contrivance about 1 pm. urie explained that he had sent his boys to the river to get some rope from his boat when he tough there were overdue he went outside his tool shed to look for them .he noticed them about 300 feet away looking in the sky and he glanced up to see what he called the flying disc .he said je could only see it for a moment before it disappeared behind a hill which obscured his view.urie further stated that the contrivance was about seventy five feet in the air.ureis resides in the depths of the sanke rive canyon whoch is about four hundred feet deep and tweleve hundred feet across at that place .according to his account the contrivance was about three hundred ffet below the rim of the canyon and he saw it against the steep walls of the canyon on the far side. he described its color as sky blue and stated that e deoubted if it could be seen against the sky.he likewiser said that it was purely by chance that he saw it .it did not spin like a top |

metal fragments observed at west rindge new hampshire july 7 1947 security matter.. Dean xxx the original inforlmant has advised that a spectographic examination has been complete of the metal particles refferred to .they were determined to be of ordinary cast iron which had been subjectedd to a very high degree of heat.the heat caused scales to be formed on the cast iron which were originally thought to be of some metallic alloy. the scientst examining the particles concluded that if they had come through the air from any great altitude in as small pieces as they were found then most of the hea would have been taken from them by the time they reached the gound and fires would not have resulted.it is noted they landed appro 700 feet form a railroad track and inquieries were conducted by MIT to determine wether or not the paricles could have been originally a part of a liner in a smoke stack or some other part of the steam engine.these inquiries resulted in positive pinformation that the particles did not come form a train or locomotive.measurements of the four pieces examined revealed that they had mist likely been originally all part of one hollow cylinder eight inches in diameter and three sixteenthes of an inch in thickness.it was felt that one piece falling from a great height would have still retained a good part of its heart and probably would have smashed when it hit the ground. a scienntist yyy whom did not identify by name recalled that cast iron cylinders or similar measurements had been used in new mexico on research work on a guided missile project. however this unidentified scientists did not so conclude to the exclusion of all othe rpossibilities. |

i had occasion to step form my home located approx one mile west of the town of merced on the night of april 4 1949 at approx 2220 .my attention was diverted by a clicking noise of considerable intensity.i stopped on the sidewalk about 20 feet form the front steps and recognised the source of this clicking to bein the sky in an area about 40 degrees from the surface of the earth in an easterly direction.the sky condition was 20000 thin broken with 12 miles visibilit and surface winds were reported as north noine mph at castle air force base and in an area somewhat sheltered form surface winds and no appreciable surface wind was apparent at the time the aural observation was made. after about ten seconds of looking into the area described previously as being the source of this sound an object was observed blanking out stars in describing a flight path in awest or northwesterly direction.only one object was apparent its shape can be described as only a solid mass.its size can be estimated as four or five feet in diameter in keeping with an estimated altitude of considerably less than 1000 (one thousand) feet. color was shown by the reflection of ground lights on only two occasions and appeared to be reflecion of ground lights on only two occasions and appeared to be dull surfaced light colored metal .the only ground lights of intensity were a row of street lights behind me one half block which leads me to believe the under surface of this objects to be curved in shape.thsi object when first sighted was moving very slowly in a west or northwesterly direction.i would estimate that i had it in my range of vision for 35 seconds after having heard it about ten seconds before locating it.it passed on beyond the house and manoeuvred through an arc of turn o the left of about ninety degrees ;the clicking sound was continuous throughout this turn, however it becames louder as it returned on its new heading of south or southwest .on its return the ckiclikng sound became louder bt i was unable to see it at this time. the ckickiking stopped when it was at its greateast intensity and appeared to come form a position directly overhead.i was unable to see the objet after the sound stopped.this clicking sound retaiend the same pitch and speed through out the entire course oberved but inte, nsity varied. there was not whistle or roar but only the clicking noise which might be compared to beaters of a home mixer that were not properly meshed. no lights or flame were observed during this entire course with exception of the previsous described reflections twice.no exhaust trail was distinguishable |

cas des green fireball.; secret af desormais/.. Dr lincoln la paz of the unisversity opf new mexico discussed one sitingg which he himself had made whiwh was termed he starvation peak incident and described the following characteristics which indicated that the phenomenon could not be classified as a normal meteorite fall. 1 there was an initial bright light (no period of intensity incresaeà) and constant intensity during the duration of the phenomenon 2 yellow green color about 5200 angstroms. 3 essentially horizontal path 4 trajectory traversed at constant angular velocity 5 duration about two seconds 6 no accompanying noise. it was brought out that since december 5 1948 there have been more than ten incidents analogous to the green fireballs above described and some twenty others with miner deviations from the above. it is also pointed out that the only sittings which had occurred seemed to have been confined to the los alamos las vegas and west texas triangle. G2 also advised that as of november 1 1948 information had been received from higher military authorities that the air force had advised that such sitings occur periodically and that another period of sightings was then imminent. further on february 14 1949 higher military authorities advised that it was believed that ultimately it would be found that the phenomena in question have a natural explanation |

in july 1948 an unidnetified aricraft was seen by an eastern airlines pilot and co pilot and one or more passengers of the eastern airlien splane over montgomery alabama. This aircraft was reported to be of an unconventional type without wings and resembled generally a rocket ship of the type depicted in comic trips. it was reproted to havd had wndows to have been larger than the eastern airlines plane and to have been traveling at ane estimated speed of 2700 miles an hour. it appeared out of a thunderhead ahead of the eastern airlines plane and immediatley disappaered in another cloud narrowly missing a collision with the eastern airlines lane. nos sound or air disturbance was noted in connection with this appearance |

on march 13 at 230 mst o clock uin teh afternoon i witnessed a strange sight in the sky travellng at a very high rate of speed at a very high altitude. I was first attracted to this sight by a noise of motor or whatever it was.it sound to me lke that of a train rumbling in th e distance of from 10 to 12 miles on a still day. at first sglance it looked like it might be a vapor railleft by a high flying plane . but the white streak that was in the sky never changed its shaped or did it change in the direction of travel.it traveled much faster than any plane i have seen traveling in sky high enough to leave vapor trail? as near as i can described this sight was that t might appear to be a stream lined train traveling at a very high altitude at very high rate of speed. this rocket or awxhatever it might have been was high enough to disappear form sight while it was yet very far above the horizon. .also witnessed by son. i saw the smoke cloud left by so called meteor which exploded over at norton kansas.this object was not a bright ball of fire like it was |

mr xxx an artists living at xxx chocago illinois advised sa on march 11 1952 that he saw a flying disc at 900 am on march 6 1952 .xxx stated that he was lookng out of a window at his home which window faces south when he saw a flying disc at approx 7000 feet above fullerton avenue. the angle of elevation of the disc above the horizon was about 45 deg.the disc came out of a cloud in the east stopped and hung motionless in mid air for a split second then flew due south at great speed. he described the disc as approx six feet in diameter circular white in color with a bluish tinge .the disc he said appeared to have been cosntructed out of a metal similar to aluminium.he also satstd that he saw no exahsut lights or heard no sond conencted with its movements .he noted nothing on it as to how it could maintain its even flight and believed it to have been radio controlled he sait it disappeared out of sight in approx three seconds estimating the speed at 600 700 miles per hour or more.he said it went so fast it appeared t flutter. when the disc disappeared form sight it was about the size of a golf ball on the southern horizon. xx made a sketch of the disc and the sketch and the above information were furnished to the local office of the office of special investigations |
| ufo10 | 10/09/1951 | fort monmouth | on 10 september 1951 as an mpg 1 radar set picked up a fast moving low flying target alt undetermined at approx 1110 hours se of fort monmouth at a range of about 12000 yards the target appeared to immediately follow the coast line chnging its range only slightly but changing its azimuth rapidly .the radar set was switched to full aided azimuth traacking which normally is fast enough to track jet acaircraft but in this cas was too slow to be resorted to. the target was lost in the ne at a range of about 14000 yards. this target also presented an unusually strong return for an aircraft being comparable in strenghr to that usually received form a coastal ship .the operator initially identifid the target as a ship and then realized that it could not be a ship after he observed its extreme speed | |

| ufo10 | 11/09/1951 | fort monmouth | on 11 september 1951 1050 hours 2 scr 525 serial no 217 and 315 picked up the same target ne of fort monmouth at an elevation nalge of 350 to 300 lmile at a range of appro 3000 yards (aprox altitude 31000 ft) the sets track automatically in azimuth an deleveation and with aided range tracking are capable of tracking targets up to a speed of 700 pmh.in this cas however both sets found it impossible to track the target in range due to its speed andthe operators had to resort to manual range tracking in order to hold the target . the target was tracked in this manner to the maximum tracking range of 32000 yards.the operators judge the target to be moving at a speed several hundred miles per hour higher than the maximum sided tracking ability of the radar sets.this target provided an extremely strong echo at times even thoug it was at maximum range , however the echo signal occasionnaly fell off to a level below normal return.these schanges coincided with manoeuvers of the target | |
| ufo10 | 11/09/1951 | navesink nj | on 11 september 1951 at about 130 a target was picked up on an scr 584 radar set serial 315 that displayed unusual maneouvrability .the target was approx over navesink nj as indicated by its 10000 yard range 6000 ft altitude and due n azimuth.the target remained practically stationary on the scope and appeared to be hovering .the operators looke out of the van in an attempt to see the target since it was at such a short range however overcase conditions prevented such observaion.returning to their positions the target was observed to be changing its elevation at an extremely rapid rate risen nearly vertically. the target ceased its rise in elevation at an eevation angle of approx 15000 mils at whoch time ot proceeded to move at an extremely rapid rate in range in a soutehrly direction once again the speed ion the target exceedint the aded tracking ability of the scr 584 sio that manual tracking became necessary?.the radar tracked the target to the maximum range of 32000 yards at whoch time the target was at ana elevation angle of 300 mils.the operators did not attempt to judge the speed in excess of the aioded tr&acking rate of 700mph | |
